Christian Institute of Arts and Sciences is an accredited 13-year private school with an enrollment of 130 students in grades K–12. CIAS is a private school in the state of Florida and is listed in the Florida Department of Education's Private School Directory. The school opened in the fall of 1997 and graduated its first senior class in the spring of 1998. CIAS is accredited by the Florida Coalition of Christian Private Schools Accreditation and the National Council for Private School Accreditation and holds membership in Accelerated Christian Education.

 

Community

Christian Institute of Arts and Sciences serves the educational needs of the local community combining the full services of a private school administration office with the advantages, personal assistance, and accountability needed to make the home education experience a success.

 

CIAS serves the Florida Panhandle, including but not limited to students in Escambia, Santa Rosa, Okaloosa, and Baldwin counties. We enroll students in grades K-12. The student body is racially diverse with a 20% minority population, including Asian, Pacific Asian, African American/Black, Latino, and Hispanic.

Curriculum

The academic program is organized on a quarterly grading system. Seven credits per semester is the maximum course load. Semester classes are one-half of a year long; full-year classes are a year long.

 

Traditional Curricula

The traditional classes offered are the following: English 1-4, Algebra 1-2, Geometry, Pre-Calculus, World History, American History, American Government, Economics, World Geography, Earth Space Science, Integrated Science, Biology I, Marine Biology, Astronomy, Physical Science, Chemistry, foreign/world language classes (Spanish 1-2, ASL 1-2), Bible courses (New Testament Survey, Old Testament Survey, Successful Living, Life of Christ, Apologetics), physical fitness courses (Team Sports, Personal Fitness), Life Management Skills, Health I, and many other electives.

Online & Virtual Classes

The classes that are listed on the Florida Virtual School website are all available to all CIAS students, as well as our Campus School classes on our Google Classroom platform.

 

Honors & Dual Enrollment

The honors classes offered are the following: English 1-4, Algebra 1-2, Geometry, Pre-Calculus, Calculus, World History, American History, American Government, Economics, World Geography, Biology I, Physical Science, Chemistry, Physics, and foreign/world language classes (Spanish 1-2, etc.), and many electives.

 

The dual enrollment classes are listed on the respective websites of the colleges that offer dual enrollment classes to CIAS students: Pensacola State College, Faulkner State University, Jefferson Davis Community College. University of West Florida, Southeastern University, and Liberty University.

 

Sports

CIAS students play a variety of sports in the local district public schools in compliance with the Florida High School Athletic Association. See their webpage for more information. Our students also play interscholastic team sports in local private schools (Hill Christian School, Alethia Christian Academy, West Florida Baptist Academy, etc.)

 

Fine Arts

CIAS offers a wide variety of music classes, as well as various art classes, to students of all ages at our Campus School.

 

CIAS students may participate in the award-winning Northwest Florida Homeschool Band, in conjunction with the West Florida Home Education Music Association. They also may participate in other local performance groups, bands, and orchestras, including but not limited to the Pensacola Children's Chorus, Pensacola State College, and University of West Florida.

Rank

CIAS ranks each graduating class in order of unweighted GPA and awards Valedictorian and Salutatorian status to qualifying graduating seniors.

Grade Point Average (GPA) Calculation

GPA is computed using the above quality points. Beginning with grade nine, all subjects, whether passed or failed, are included in the GPA computation. A minimum of 24 credits is required for graduation from CIAS. In addition, each student must complete a 75-hour volunteer community service graduation requirement, as well as submit a qualifying research paper. Honors and dual enrollment classes are weighted by 0.3 point. Grades are recorded on the official transcript, and GPA is computed in January and May/June.
